Honor Play First Impressions: Design, Display
From the design perspective, the Honor Play Company seems slightly different from the lineup of the company. Unlike the Honor 10, in which there is a glass back, an Honor Play Mat is stuck behind the metal with the finish. The phone looks like Honor View 10, except for some cosmetic changes. We got Honor Play in Navy Blue, but the phone will also be made available in Midnight Black. The fingerprint sensor is backwards, vertically arranged by a pair of dual cameras.
Honor play is comfortable to hold in the hand and feels light. I think Honor looks more premium than 10 Honor Play. But, keep in mind that you are paying more for Honor 10, and the price matters at the end of the day.
What I like about Honor Play is performance and yes, it is huge in size. When most smartphones in this price segment are limited to 5.9-inch, the Honor has increased the screen size to 6.3-inch. It has a resolution of 1080 x 2340 and a FHD + display with an aspect ratio of 19: 9. Oh yeah, you will also get a cutout or "knot" on top of the screen.
Unlike respect 10, in which the glass is back, the Honor Playte Mat Sticks to the back of the metal with the finish.
In my short time spent with Honor Play, I liked the display quality of 6.3-inch panels. The screen is sharp, bright, and colorful. The show is suitable for viewing movies or playing games. I can already imagine playing PUBG for hours on Honor Play.
Honor Play First impression: Performance, software, and battery
Honor Play is the first smartphone in the mid-end segment, which offers the Kirin 970 processor. So, expect the same level of performance that you would otherwise find on high-end smartphones. Comparatively, Both the Honor 10 and Huawei P20 Pro are also run in the Kirin 970 processor.
I respect the respected review unit, we have 6 GB of RAM and 64 GB internal memory. A cheap version of Honor Play is also available, which has 4 GB RAM and 36 GB internal memory. If you are a pro user like me or who like to play a game, then I would recommend you choose the top-end version of Honor Play.
Gaming is a good experience on Honor Play, which makes it one of the most powerful smartphones in the mid-end segment. Graphically, the games look fantastic with a smooth gameplay in my short trial.
In addition, Honor Play takes advantage of the GPU turbo, which is a new technology which claims to increase performance by up to 60 per cent, while the battery power drain has decreased by 30 per cent. Respect says that GPU Turbo technology is limited to gaming at this time.
Gaming is a great experience on Honor Play, which makes it one of the most powerful smartphones in the mid-range segment.
Honor Play Android 8.1 is running EMUI 8.2 based on OREO. EMUI is not the most beautiful overlay on top of Android, but it's fast and smooth. Apps are spread over the home screen, but if you want, an app drawer can be added through the settings menu.
Honor has placed headphone jack on the latest smartphone and this is a great relief. Honor Play does not provide the best audio, so be prepared for a big disappointment. I wish the company had installed dual speakers which would take the gaming experience to a new level.
Honor Play is installed with 3,750 mAh battery. We are still testing, but so far Honor Play gives the full day of use with a single charge.
Honors First Impressions: Camera
There is a dual camera setup behind Honor Play, 16 MP Primary Snapper with an FM / 2.2 aperture lens and 2 MP secondary camera with F / 2.4 aperture. On the front, there is a 16 MP camera to take.
The dual lens setup is capable enough to take good shots, but it is not expected that the quality of the picture will be as good as seen on Honor 10. Since I have started using Honor Play, so I am making my final decision reserved for full review which will be out in the coming weeks.
Honor Play first impressions: Early Conclusion
The idea behind the Honor Play is to offer the best possible hardware on a mid-end smartphone. And frankly, Honor Play appears to be an all-round device that offers everything you would expect in a phone that costs less than Rs 25,000. Do check our full review of Honor Play later this week.
